Ray Shriver
February 15, 2012

We lost our dear friend and colleague Ray giving his life doing what he loved to do, yet in the most beautiful place in the world.

Once we start this journey of Search and Rescue, we cannot quit, it is a magical gift given to few, yet a burden as well. Our bodies fail as we get older, our beloved K-9 partners die, and still we continue in some form or function. We sincerely feel that Ray paid back his old survivor debt long ago and maybe some of ours too.

Ray will be missed by the entire Jackson Hole community and all search and rescue organizations. He had more passion then anyone we know for searching, responding to emergencies and training in all aspects of SAR. We feel it an honor to have worked and trained with him. He is an inspiration to all of us and his knowledge of SAR will be missed greatly. Ray was a professional and a dedicated SAR volunteeer. He gave countless hours to the local community and surrounding areas.

To show how much he was respected, Grand Teton National Park and the state of Wyoming put their flags at half mast. That's an amazing tribute to any individual.

Ray, we salute you for all your bravery and dedication. We will all miss you very much.
